Boat to D.O.T. requirements

Materials:
Hull grade 300 steel arc-welded
Windows 6mm armourplate

Construction:
CAD and CAM-assisted using the "open-sky" system for fitting out below decks on a productionline basis with specialist workmen. Ouality control exercised continually.

Surface finish:
Interior steel painted with 2 coats epoxy on primer with covercoat except in tanks where special paints are used. Exterior painted to International paint specification. Antifoul paint below waterline.
Nonslip finish with 2mm grit and of Intersmooth type. Interbond deckcoats on decks and walkways.

Propulsion:
Cummins Diesel engine with 150 kW Medium Duty rating dirct coupled to a reduction gearbox (MG 5061 with 3,0 : 1 ratio), with VULKAN coupling and bolted to steel enginebeds. Freshwater cooling system with a custombuilt keelcooler.
Dry exhaust with silencer and above roof outlet.
Dual watertrap/fuelfilters in addition to filters on engine.
Direct coupling to 80mm propshaft in steel heavy-walled sterntube with face seal and water-lubricated bearings of VESCONITE.
Special multi-bladed propeller as prescribed by Dr. G.Hoppe for optimum performance, best economy and smooth running.
Controls of throttle and gearshift by heavy duty push-pull cables and robust control levers with positive stops to prevent overstressing of cables and ensure reliability.
Standard instruments and alarms as supplied by engine supplier fitted on dashboard together with start and stop controls.

Steering:
Manual/hydraulic swashplate multipiston helm unit with a wheel to suit coupled by nylon tubing to a hydraulic double-acting cylinder connected to the steering arm below rear deck.
Emergency steering lever stowed on reardeck for quick use by engage-ment with extended square on rudderstock accessed from above deck.
Rudder to "SCHILLING" profile is balanced for low operational force and 40o angle either side of amidships for quick, precise directional control without rudder cavitation. ("SHARON" can turn in one boatlength at 7 knots!)
Rudder angle indicator fitted on dashboard.

Bilge Pumps:
Bilge pump beltdriven from engine through electric clutch operated automatically or from wheelhouse to discharge overboard near deck level through non-return valve.
Electric bilge pumps - one in engine room, other in forepeak. Manual pump mounted on reardeck with suction at lowest point in engine room and overboard discharge.

Ventilation:
Watertrapped air inlets above deck allow combustion air to enter engineroom and absorb radiated heat from the engine before being consumed.

Fire fighting:
Shut-off valves operable from outside can stop air supply in the case of an engineroom fire. One Dry Powder extinguisher at entrance door. 2 x CO2 Extinguishers on deck with nozzle in engine room.

Lights:
Four Engine room lights of "safety" -type off D.C. supply with switches at deck entrance.
2 Sockets for leadlights.

Batteries:
One dedicated 24 volt x 120 ah batterybank for starting of main engine.
Second 120ah batterybank for services charged by the 60 amp alternator on main engine.
Battery boxes ventilated overboard.

Fish Hold:
Insulated with Poly-Urethane foam 150 thick covered with a layer of fibreglass reinforced polyester on all interior surfaces.
Floor reinforced with encapsulated plywood.
Access hatch with 300mm high coaming in the position indicated by customer.

Crew Quarters:
On two levels in foredeck behind the collision bulkhead, with doors on maindeck.
23 Steelframed bunks with plywood bases.
Interior of hull insulated with carpeting.
Two toilets with washbasins with access from maindeck.

Foredeck:
Manual anchor winch with gipsey.
Anchor chain stored in chain locker in forepeak.
65kg Anchor stowed on bow roller, spare anchor lashed on deck.
Vents for watertanks and accommodation.
Two bollards and fairleads.
Mast with stays for lights.

Maindeck:
Hatch for fish hold and topdeck. Stairs to wheelhouse and ladders to whaleback and rear topdeck.

Wheelhouse:
Composite structure with sliding wooden door and two windows that can open halfway; other windows are fixed. Dashboard with engine instruments and alarms. Throttle and gear control of push/pull cable type. Compass. Manual/hydraulic steering with rudder indicator. G.P.S. V.H.F. radio. Tripswitch panel for lights, pumps, wipers, hooter etc. First Aid Box. 6 Flares, 2 Smoke Flares, 2 Rocket Flares, Charts. Radar arch on roof for antennae.

Captain's Cabin:
Two bunks with storage space. Shower/toilet washroom.

Galley:
Access from reardeck. Window on starboard side. Stainless steel washbasin and tabletop. Gas stove.

Top rear deck: Liferaft, Spreadlight, Two gasbottles.
