| Boatloft cc was established in 1995 to group some expert South African
knowlege in small vessel construction. The company has a range of high speed
catamaran designs from which more than 50 boats have been built in the past
20 years. Boat Designing Expertise within the company totals more than 120
years. Currently Boatloft has Glass Reinforced Plastic moulds to build boats from 8.6 to 33 metres. The unique hull design, when fitted with another South African development, the rigid hydrofoil, outperforms similar vessels in seakeeping, cost-effectiveness and endurance. The rigid main foil fitted permanently in the tunnel between the two catamaran sponsons provides additional lift to the hull after the planing speed of 18 knots is reached. Together with two trim foils fitted aft and in the tunnel, the patented Boatloft catamarans provide exceptional fuel savings. All the Boatloft multihulls provide outstanding maneuverability and seakeeping qualities that are yet to be outdone by any other design in this class. |

General information on Bobkat Hull designs

|
The patented hull design incorporates several innovative features: The tunnel chines - two longitudinal steps on each side - break up the solid water to form a two phase medium before it hits the tunnel roof (wet deck). This assures a comfortable, shock-free ride in rough water. The sponsons (demi-hulls) are asymmetrical with convex non-trips to guarantee banking to the inside in turns. This feature provides excellent straight-line stability, as well as safe and comfortable turning. The symmatrical bows provide plenty of displacement up front to prevent any chance of "stuffing" or broaching. Being symmetrical they also prevent any see-sawing (veering from port to starboard) when quartering seas. Fitting the HYSUCAT foil system to the planing versions increases top speed by at least 7 knots whilst increasing comfort and stability even further in rough seas. Where continual operation at high speed and in all weather conditions is required, Bobkat’s patented SKOKBREKER can be fitted. This will reduce slamming against the tunnel roof in high seastates. The high tunnel is a feature that provides several benefits. Head seas can be taken at speed; the high tunnel at the transom also allows fast backing-up without swamping the rear deck and makes trolling and loitering in following seas dry and safe. The swim platforms at the transom protects the drive system and allows recovery at near water level in safety. Not only do the shape of the sponsons give a soft and safe ride, the shapes also provide inherent strength to the hull, reducing weight of the fibreglass lay-up. Centre of Gravity position is not criticalon this hull design which allows people to move around without upsetting stability or overall performance. Preferred position remains at 35% - 40% of waterline length, which is easily achieved in a practical layout. Superstructures can be constructed out of G.R.P., Sandwich, aluminium or even wood to suit the requirements of the end-user. Because of the high metacentric height of the basic hull, the deck structures can be high and wide to fully take advantage of the very large space available. |
